Being on the receiving end of advice.
After the explosion.

Recall the previous letter titled: BEFORE you defuse the…
Like the previous letter I wrote about giving advice to people when you have no idea what they’re going through,
Todays letter deals with the issues of taking advice from just anyone.
The framework is simple:
Do not take advice from people that don’t have the life that you want.
That one simple framework frees up so much of space from your mind because it’s not convoluted by conflicting opinions.
Generally the advice you get from your immediate support system isn’t the best because some of those people around just have no idea what you’re even doing.
And you can’t expect them to know - because most people care primarily about themselves and what they want for their lives.
It’s very rare for you to find advice from your immediate circle that actually moves the needle forward.
The advice that you want generally sounds similar to each other.
My content diet consists of entrepreneurs who say the same thing:
“START”
“STAY CONSISTENT”
“You have to be willing to go through abnormal amounts of pain”
“Gamify the process”
“JUST WIN”
The advice is similar.
There will be differences in the circumstances, geographical positioning, time of discovery, work ethic.
However there is a discernable pattern.
Success leaves clues.
All of those people read most of the same books.
They’re more articulate.
They create content.
They do coaching and mentorship or they offer some form of education whether it's free or paid.
They manage to fill rooms with over 10000 people.
They become leaders through Osmosis.
They create more things.
They’re almost immune to the negative opinions of others.
Which is evident in their advice that these people (who are reputable and have actually built something) give you…
It’s really easy to spot someone who talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.
The advice of those people have similar meanings and similar inflections.
They just echo what the other person is saying with their own uniqueness.
Which is probably why you,
If you share the same passions that I do and that a lot of the people reading this letter share,
Hear the same things being said over and over.
But the problem is some people don’t follow the advice of high-level people because if everyone did,
They would all be rich.
They would all have balanced lives.
They would all be active and they would build something for themselves.
The thing is - it’s hard.
When you start a business all your blind spots and insecurities are dialed up to the max.
If you don’t deal with them they will deal with you and keep your business from reaching the targets that you’ve set for it.
The CEO of the business has to do the work of X amount of people.
The Entrepreneur - the day to day tasks for the business, maintaining the equilibrium of the team.
The Person behind the Entrepreneur - the day to day tasks of being a regular human being.
Maybe you’re a parent.
Maybe you’re a husband/wife.
If you’re not now, you probably will be.
That’s why growth is essential.
That’s why advice shouldn’t be taken from someone who doesn’t embody it in the lives that they live.
See you in here tomorrow.
