“You learn faster by flying the plane.”
I read that sentence in an email not too long ago from an entrepreneur.
This guy's been in the game for about 6 years now so he pretty much knows what's up.
And it honestly rang true to me.
We've all playing video games right?
For those of you that haven't, there's usually a tutorial that, you have to go through in the beginning.
I carefully studied them to make sure,
I didn't die in the middle of the game. Newsflash…it was pointless.
When I first started out in my journey, (which wasn't too long ago)
I had this notion that I needed to consume ALL the knowledge before I took action.
Like I did with the game tutorials.
“Read the books.”
“Watch the videos.”
“Take notes.”
All of these did help start the idea engine,
But weren’t needed as fuel.
They were just charges.
The real fuel comes from diving off the deep end and kicking as hard as you can.
Sometimes I still catch myself consuming too much content before I do anything.
The idea has to be perfect.
The format has to be perfect.
The word choice, the content, the flow must be perfect.
But often what happens is the exact opposite.
You never publish the work.
You never write that book.
You never cook that dish that you've always wanted to make.
You never meet that person or…
Go on that date because you're always worried about perfection.
You don't need all the information to do something.
(Not in an irresponsible way)
But in a way that is based on intrinsic trust.
You have to trust that even if the path isn't lit all the way…
That you're going to figure things out.
That the big wins will come.
And that whenever you hit roadblocks,
It's an opportunity to learn.
